Julie’s Story

Here at Xpression we are supporting firefighters from Buckingham Fire Station who have decided to help raise as much money as possible in the coming months for the Cure CJD, UCLH Charity.

They are focusing all off their efforts on raising as much money as physically possible, by carrying out numerous fund-raising events, culminating in a three day kayak from Buckingham to Huntingdon on the River Great Ouse. Mike Downard, Scott Knowler, Roger Brinklow, Bob Ogle, Matt Jarvis and Jamie Robinson are accompanying John Robinson with a support vehicle crewed by Lee King & Steve Swainson. The trip will take three days to complete and will pass through Milton Keynes, Olney, Bedford and St Neots.

Total distance = 128km or 80 miles, bring on the marathons!
Thursday 4 May Friday 5 May Saturday 6 May
Day 1 – Buckingham/Olney = 26.5 miles
Day 2 – Olney/Bedford = 29 miles
Day 3 – Bedford/Huntingdon = 24.5 miles

The Reason – John and his family are currently going through one of the toughest, most challenging times of their lives.

John’s wife Julie is one of the most extraordinary, genuine and truly inspiring people you could ever have the privilege to meet. She has changed people’s lives in the past, and is very well known in Buckingham and surrounding areas for what she has always done for others. She has given life to people who thought it wasn’t possible, which is truly remarkable.

Sadly in the recent year, soon after becoming a Nana, Julie was diagnosed with cancer and has subsequently gone through treatment, to eventually be told she has the ‘All Clear’.

Unfortunately this good news was short-lived. She has now been diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) which is a rare, degenerative, hereditary fatal disease that tends to run a rapid course. Sadly this may also affect John’s son Jamie, daughter Jemma and his two beautiful granddaughters.

There is currently NO cure for CJD, but strong efforts are being made to change this by researchers and doctors at the MRC Prion Unit and NHS National Prion Clinic at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) NHS Foundation Trust.

Tragically these efforts will not save Julie. However, we can hopefully help to save others who have yet to be struck down with this unforgiving disease. If you’d like to be part of these amazing ongoing events, then get in touch.
